Bead Blasting 3D Printed Parts (Hobbyist Edition) – TMF Tips Series: Episode 6

The Metal Finisher went back into the lab to test a bead blast finish on 3D printed parts.  This test is more for the hobbyist, but we will do a test on a more industrial application in the future.  The main goals were to eliminate or reduce layer lines, while offering a smooth finish.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get the results we were looking for, but we definitely see we can reach that goal by making a few adjustments.  The bead blast process reduced the layer lines, but didn’t fully remove them.  Our next test we will either increase the pressure and cycle time, or move over to the Empire Abrasive Equipment Pressure Blast Cabinet.
